Mp3 Filter FAQ
What is Mp3 Filter?^top^Mp3 Filter is a tool to scan you music collection for duplicates. What makes it better than other dupe scanners?^top^Mp3 Filter is specialized in music duplicates scanning. Thus, it compares attributes that are not compared in a generic duplicate scanner, such as duration, bitrate and tag. Mp3 Filter also compares tags and filenames by looking at all their words. Thus, files don't need to have the exact same attributes to be considered as duplicates. Additionally, Mp3 Filter features a Mp3 List system to find duplicates between you collection on hard drive and your archived collection on CD. Which music file formats are supported?^top^MP3, M4A/M4P (iTunes' format), WMA and OGG. How safe is it to use Mp3 Filter?^top^Pretty safe. Mp3 Filter has a mechanism to ensure you that you keep at least one member of a duplicate group. Thus, you can't accidentaly delete all files in a duplicate group. However, it is always recommended to carefully review each duplicate before deleting it. The file I want to delete has been flagged as reference! What to do?^top^You must use the "Switch with reference" function. To use it, select the duplicate that you would like to take the place of the reference, and click on the "Switch with ref." button. The duplicate will become reference, and the reference will become duplicate. Then, you can delete the file. I have a directory with full albums in it, I wouldn't want to delete files in this directory. What to do?^top^This is a common situation. If you don't want to delete file in a particular directory, but still want to include it in the scan, edit your profile and go to the "Directories" section. From there, find the directory in your selection (the right pane), select it, and press the "R" key. Now, your directory will be flagged as reference, and will be impossible to delete any file in it from this profile, even with the "Switch with ref." function (You will have an error message telling you that you can't switch a file from a reference directory). I just finished a very long scan, but I don't have the time to verify all the duplicates. Did I waste my time?^top^No, you can reload your last scan the next time you use Mp3 Filter. To do so, use the "Load last scan results" from the main window's menu. It will reload your last scan results, but without scanning your whole collection. Make sure you don't perform another scan before reloading your results, because it will overwrite your other results. |
